Today is once again Sunday. The boxes on the calendar seem to be filling up at a faster rate now that we are on the cusp of September. My back to school looks very different than it has for the past 26 years. I am thankful and honestly do not miss public school. Let’s have a cup of coffee, shall we?
I link my blog with others at Natalie the Explorer to celebrate Weekend Coffee Share posts!
If we were having coffee I would tell you I have been reading flash fiction by Meghan Phillips and Amie Souza Reilly and enjoying it immensely. I found a new [to me] podcast called “Short Story Today” where the writers are interviewed and then the host reads a story of theirs at the end of the podcast. Amie was interviewed and I found out about her through the podcast.
If we were having coffee I would tell you I revised several chapters of my novel and discovered I love to have characters looking at things. Writers do not always recognize the ticks they have until reading a piece in a different way. This can be out loud, changing the font, printing it out, reading sentences or chapters in reverse order, etc.
If we were having coffee I would tell you there was a Zoom reunion for the Colorado retreat participants. It didn’t seem like we should have been home for as long as we are! It was great to catch up with almost everyone and hear what they have been up to. I have the feeling this group is going to stay connected for the long haul.
Do you need a refill? Would you like some ice water?
If we were having coffee I would tell you we had a fire in the fireplace on Saturday! We woke up and it was 55 degrees outside. It was great to sit and write with my coffee and fire in the morning. I have been able to get back to walking several times a week with the weather being so pleasant too! Lots of ideas come to me during walks which I am grateful for. I am ok with fall temperatures moving forward too!
If we were having coffee I would tell you the Sarah Selecky Intensive that I teach for opened registration yesterday. Follow this link for more information. This course changed my writing life and taught me craft I didn’t have access to before. It is a great course for digging in deep within a supportive and guided environment. I am joining Sarah for an IG conversation on August 31st! My IG handle is @writertammy.
If we were having coffee I would tell you on the writing front that I am adding more features to my PUSH group and the Slack that accompanies it. I am signed up for numerous classes over the next several months. Some are long term and others are short. There is value to them all with instruction and connections to other writers. My PUSH group allows me to curate the learning and be able to share much of it with my community which makes me happy. It makes them happy too!
I had a friend ask me about my plans for an MFA moving forward, especially after my return from Colorado. I will continue the path of taking classes from the writers I want to study with and to continue to read great writing and analyze it. I know what I need to do. I have joined a couple groups that have high quality feedback as well so I can get the critique I need. The Charles Baxter craft books have been amazing resources as well. It feels good to be reading again.
I hope your Sunday and the week are filled with hours of something you want to do, interesting dreams, deep love, great reading, and maybe some pancakes!
Do you have any burning questions for me? I would love to answer them next week in the coffee share! Put them in the comments or message me through the blog and I will answer them all!
For those of you who follow me through social media:
I had to change my handles/accounts because the respective accounts would not let me in from my new phone. Both IG and Twitter are now @writertammy
Thank you for joining me for a coffee chat. I hope to see you next weekend!
